Ruger 10-22 Takedown Survival Rifle
Ruger 10/22 Takedown Survival Rifle
The Ruger 10/22 Takedown is the perfect survival rifle. It easily transforms from a 2 piece firearm that fits in a sleeping pad stuff sack, to a full sized weapon ready for anything a survival situation can dish out. They seem to be very hard to find these days. With all of the doomsday preppers and survival people all trying to get there hands on them, Ruger simply cannot make them fast enough. Somehow I did manage to get my hands on one though Finally!!
Now, I sure don’t plan on taking this on every backpacking trip. Next fall however I can think of a few different places I plan to go where I will have this along. I just weighed this gun at 5# 11 oz with the scope on it. I plan to remove the scope and save almost a pound. I also weighed it with 2 thick wool socks I have the gun wrapped in. So at a little under 5# bare that’s not bad..
I have shot a lot of ruger 10/22 rifles and they have all been very good shooters. If you ever get into a
predicament where you need food, this will put squirrels on the dinner table all day long. You can also harvest just about any other game with it with well placed shots. If I am ever kicked out of a plane over the Alaskan wilderness, I would surely appreciate having this gun along.
The Folding stock Ruger Carbine is still much longer than the 10/22 takedown with a scope on it. Almost 8″ longer! The largest half of the Takedown is only 20″
There are a lot of good survival rifles on the market. I just happen to like 10/22’s because of the aftermarket parts available, and because of their history of reliability. There are some single shot 22 long rifle/410 shotguns that I have always been interested in. They tend to be a little bit lighter. But frankly, it sure is more fun to shoot semi-automatic weapons 🙂 especially with all the 25-50 round clips available for the ruger 10/22 line.
